NHFR Team of the Week: Kearsarge

NHFR TEAM OF THE WEEK
Kearsarge Cougars

In perhaps the most surprising score from last weekend, Kearsarge overcame a 24-point deficit to pick up a 25-24 road victory against Newport on Saturday.

Kearsarge trailed 24-19 until quarterback Will Spanos tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Brand with 1:05 to play, and Newport (4-2) was unable to score on its final possession.

Newport built its 24-0 lead on TD runs by Amilio Urista, Aaron Fellows and a TD pass from Fellows to Aidan Couitt. Fellows also completed passes to Aidan Sanchez for each of Newport’s three two-point conversions.

Kearsarge (2-4) began its comeback on Aidan Ruckman’s 9-yard TD run with :03 remaining in the first half, and trimmed its deficit to 24-12 when Jack Cicoria scored on a 52-yard run with 7:12 remaining in the third quarter. Ruckman’s 54-yard TD run on a third-and-17 play helped the Cougars make it 24-19 with 5:03 to play.
