Dartmouth raises record to 6-0

NEW YORK — — Q Jones ran for 182 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, D.J. Crowther scored on a 33-yard run and Dartmouth never trailed Saturday en route to a 24-21 victory over Columbia.

Dartmouth (6-0, 3-0 Ivy League), ranked No. 22 in the FCS STATS Perform Top 25, is off to its best start since it won eight in a row to open the 2019 season, and has won nine consecutive games dating to last season.

Owen Zalc kicked a 35-yard field goal to open the scoring with 10:41 left in the second quarter, and Grayson Saunier threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Chris Corbo that made it 10-0 with 1:58 left in the first half.

Jones ripped off a 35-yard TD run early in the third quarter and, after Cole Freeman scored on a 1-yard run that trimmed the Lions’ deficit to 17-7 with 1:43 remaining in the third, Crowther’s scoring run made it a 17-point game going into the fourth.

Freeman threw touchdown passes of 5 and 7 yards to Bryson Canty in the final 2 minutes, 10 seconds for Columbia (4-2, 2-1).

PLYMOUTH STATE 35, WESTFIELD STATE 7

PLYMOUTH – A blocked punt for a touchdown and 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown were the highlights for Plymouth State University  as the Panthers cruised past Westfield State University, 35-7, in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) football game at Panther Field on Saturday.

The Panthers used three rushing touchdowns in the first half to take a 21-0 lead into the break. Sophomore Jonah Bassett, Jr. fresh off a two-interception game last weekend, tore around the edge to block a Westfield State punt before collecting the bouncing ball and running 39 yards to the end zone to make it 28-0, and junior Nick Marcinowski added a 70-yard fumble recovery TD in the fourth quarter as PSU upped the lead to 35-0.

Westfield State spoiled the shutout bid with a 4-yard TD run with 14 seconds left on the clock. Plymouth State evened its record at 3-3 (3-3 MASCAC). The Owls slipped to 2-5 (2-4 MASCAC).
