No. 6: Memorial 21, Dover 19

Memorial set the tone for its season by scoring on the final play of this Division I game.

The scencario: The Crusaders trailed by four points and were on the Dover 2-yard line with 2.5 seconds remaining. Quarterback Collin Beaulieau kept the ball and scored to give Memorial a victory in its NHIAA opener.

Despite a 70-34 advantage in offensive plays, Memorial never had the lead until Beaulieu’s second touchdown run. Four Memorial players rushed for more than 50 yards in the win: Beaulieu (13 carries, 58 yards), Jacob Schuff (seven carries, 61 yards), Mo Olanweraju (16 carries, 84 yards) and Jathyen Torres (10 carries, 64 yards). Olanweraju scored Memorial’s other TD on an 11-yard run.

Dover took a 19-13 fourth-quarter lead on the second of two Cooper Gagne TD passes and began its final possession on its own 10-yard line with 2:45 remaining. The Green Wave went backwards from there and opted to take a safety rather than punt from its own end zone.

Memorial took over on is own 45-yard line trailing 19-15 with 1:03 left. The Crusaders covered 55 yards in 10 plays, included a 9-yard run by Beaulieu on a fourth-and-three play from the Dover 11. He scored the game-winning TD on the next play.

Jackson Brock caught both of Gagne’s TD passes. Dover’s other touchdown came on a 65-yard run by Camden Grund on the game’s second play from scrimmage.
