PEA 41, Cheshire 24

The Phillips Exeter Academy football team ralliedf rom a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Cheshire, 41-24, Saturday at Phelps Stadium.

Trailing 24-14 after two quarters, PEA secured the victory with a strong second half.

Amari Lewis caught a 56-yard TD pass from quarterback Jake Attaway to help PEA cut the deficit to four, 24-20, early in the third quarter. Then Luke Rogers ended the ensuing Cheshire drive by intercepting a pass in the end zone and returned it 73-yards to set up a Big Red score. Rogers capped the drive with a 23-yard TD run on a reverse as Exeter took its first lead, 27-24.

The Big Red offense kept rolling. On third and 8 from the Cheshire 24-yard line, Attaway found Caden Drobinski for his second touchdown reception of the day as PEA extended its lead to 34-24. Tyrone Neal sealed the win with a 46-yard touchdown run with 2:40 remaining, capping a dominant half in which Exeter outscored Cheshire 27-0.

Attaway accounted for four touchdowns, finding Lewis, Liam Mall, and twice hooking up with Drobinski for TD passes. Lewis made his mark on both sides of the ball, also grabbing an interception on Cheshire’s second play from scrimmage.

The Big Red is back in action Saturday when PEA travels to Williston Northampton for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
