UNH 24, Albany 6

DURHAM – Sophomore running back Denzell Gibson, sophomore wide receiver Ryan Blagg and sophomore quarterback Matt Vezza each scored a touchdown in the University of New Hampshire’s 24-6 victory against Albany on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.

Vezza was an efficient 19-of-24 passing for 190 yards and a 6-yard touchdown pass to Blagg and also rushed 12 times for 12 yards and a 3-yard TD. Grad student wide receiver Chase Wilson was UNH’s top receiver with four catches for 74 yards. Senior running back Myles Thomason had a team-high 77 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Grad student safety Duncan Moreland and senior cornerback Zeroun Skinner led the Wildcats with five tackles apiece and Skinner was credited with 1.5 tackles for loss. Freshman corner Kelby Hampton recorded the only takeaway in the game with an interception.
The Wildcats also received a 47-yard field goal from Nick Reed.
UNH improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the CAA, while UAlbany moved to 1-4, (0-1 CAA).

UNH NOTEBOOK
  • Blagg’s touchdown was his first career catch.
  • Hampton recorded his first career interception. He was also credited with a career-high three tackles (all solo).
  • Both Gibson and Vezza have four career rushing TDs.
  • Reed has made 11 of 13 field goal attempts (84.6 percent) this season. He is a perfect 2-for-2 from 40-49 yards and is 5 of 6 on all attempts of 40-plus yards (3-for-4 from 50-plus).
  • Matt Guidebeck averaged 47.0 yards on three punts with a career long of 59; he pinned UAlbany inside the UA 20 twice.
  • Moreland is now UNH’s active career leader in tackles with 95.
  • The six points marked the fewest given up by UNH in a game this season and the Wildcats also held an opponent below 100 rushing yards (94) for the first time this season.
