URI 38, UNH 27

The University of New Hampshire carried a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter but was defeated by No. 17-ranked University of Rhode Island 38-27 on Saturday afternoon at Meade Stadium.

UNH quarterback Matt Vezza completed 16 of 32 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball 16 times for 54 yards. Grad student Chase Wilson had five catches for 69 yards, including a 20-yard TD.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Trevor Barry and grad student linebacker Cole Bullock led the Wildcats with 10 and nine tackles, respectively. Freshman Kelby Hamption recorded his second and team’s sixth interception of the season.

URI was led offensively by Brendon Barrow, who rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns; and Devin Farrell, who threw for 164 yards and rushed for 47, including a TD.

UNH moved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Coastal Athletic Association. URI is now 5-2, 3-0.

UNH returns to action Oct. 18 at Campbell.
