SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The New England College football team fell to 1-4 in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday after stumbling on the road against Western New England, 55-0.

The Golden Bears got things going from the very beginning as they returned the opening kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown. Western New England scored twice more in the first quarter and found paydirt two more times in the second quarter to take a 35-0 lead into halftime.

Western New England added one touchdown in the third quarter and two more in the fourth for a final score of 55-0. Drew Caouette had four passing touchdowns for the Golden Bears while their rushing attack combined for 364 yards on the ground.

The Pilgrims struggled to get things going on the offensive end, with junior Aidan McDonald (Salem, N.H.) leading the running back room with 44 yards on 11 carries. Sophomore Dontrell White (Weare, N.H.) added 24 rushing yards on three touches.

Sophomore Lukas Köttstorfer (Bruckmühl, Germany) had 50 yards through the air on 5 of 17 passing.

On defense, senior Kaevryel Madison (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Ethan Cenesca (Manchester, N.H.) both had 12 tackles on the afternoon. Cenesca had two tackles-for-losses while Madison shared a tackle-for-loss with sophomore Erik Menger (Stratham, N.H.) who got in on seven tackles. Freshman Gavin Philbrook (Goffstown, N.H.) blocked a WNEC extra point attempt in the second quarter on top of his seven stops.

The Pilgrims return home next Saturday for their final home game of the season as they host Endicott at noon. The Gulls carry a 7-1 record and are undefeated in conference play.
