Trinity Pioneers

A strong second half carried second-seeded Trinity to a 31-21 victory over previously unbeaten Souhegan in Saturday’s Division II championship game at Pinkerton Academy in Derry.

The teams were tied, 14-14, at halftime, but Trinity (11-1) took a lead it wouldn’t relinquish on Alex Garand 3-yard touchdown run with 7:16 left in the third quarter. The Pioneers went up 28-14 after quarterback Ollie Service scored on a 74-yard run and added the two-point conversion with 4:29 remaining in the third.

Top-seeded Souhegan sliced its deficit to seven points on a 2-yard TD run by running back Ryland Raudelunas. The point-after kick made it 28-21 with 1:58 left in the third quarter. Raudelunas also scored on a 5-yard run to help the Sabers take a 14-7 lead in the first half.

Trinity sealed the win on Connor Bishop’s 32-yard field goal with 9:39 to play.

After Souhegan quarterback Michael Fiengo opened the scoring on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, Trinity tied the game on a 5-yard TD pass from Service to Davey Durepo. Souhegan (11-1) led 14-7 until Durepo scored on a 73-yard run with 4:21 remaining in the first half.

Durepo ran for 99 yards on eight carries and caught six passes for 49 yards in the win It was the 500th victory for the Trinity program, dating back to 1896.
