Vermont 42, New Hampshire 12

Saturday’s contest between New Hampshire and Vermont in the 73rd Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl was no contest at all.

Vermont dominated in all phases and extended its winning streak to four games by earning a 42-12 victory at Vermont State-Castleton.

Vermont led 9-0 after one quarter, 28-0 at halftime and 28-6 through three quarters. Kingswood’s Serafin Agramonte scored both New Hampshire touchdowns.

Vermont opened the scoring when it recorded a safety on a blocked a punt that bounced out of the end zone, and then scored a touchdown on each of its next four possessions.

Quarterback Sam Bent (Essex) passed for two touchdowns and scored on a 5-yard TD run. He tossed a 6-yard TD pass to Jack Foster (South Burlington) and a 10-yard TD pass to Cellen Wood (Rutland). Vermont’s other first-half TD came on a 36-yard TD pass from Colton Lefebvre (Colchester) to Aidan Iverson (Essex).

New Hampshire was limited to two first downs in the first half, when it was held to 39 yards on 19 offensive plays.

New Hampshire’s first touchdown came when Agramonte scored from 2-yards away with 3:20 remaining in the third quarter. The TD followed an interception by Colin Myers (Mascoma) and was set up by a 47-yard pass from Harrison Joshi (Nashua North) to Ray Plante (Exeter). The PAT was blocked, leaving Vermont with a 28-6 lead.

Running back Joe Brock (BFA-Fairfax) helped extend the lead to 35-6 on a 1-yard TD run with 9:46 to play.

Agramonte’s second TD came on a 95-yard reception on a halfback pass from Laconia’s Jacob Tryon with 2:21 to play. The TD set a record for longest pass in Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl history. The PAT was blocked.

Vermont scored the game’s final touchdown on a 31-yard TD pass by Lefebvre on a hook-and-ladder play with 34 seconds left. Rutland’s Grady Gallagher scored the TD.
