CAA recognizes UNH’s Silver

RICHMOND, Va. – University of New Hampshire defensive end Josiah Silver was named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Silver finished with seven tackles and matched his personal bests in both tackles for loss (5.0) and sacks (4.0) to lead UNH to a 17-10 conference win at Elon University on Saturday.

Silver recorded two of his four sacks in the fourth quarter to preserve the Wildcats’ 17-10 lead. On Elon’s first possession of that quarter, Silver recorded a sack on a third-and-six play from the Elon 15 to force Elon to punt. Then on the Phoenix’s next possession, Silver’s fourth sack of the day on a fourth-and-five play from the UNH 12 gave possession back to UNH with 7:51 to play.

Both the first and second quarters ended on sacks by Silver. His first sack of the game halted Elon’s drive at midfield on a third-and-three play.

Elon attempted an offensive play from its 37 yard line with three seconds remaining in the second quarter, but Silver brought down quarterback Jack Salopek for a sack to end the half.

Silver is currently tied for No. 1 in FCS football in sacks per game (1.25) and is No. 2 in tackles for loss per game (2.1). On the CAA leaderboard, he is tied for first in sacks per game and is atop the leaderboard in tackles for loss per game.

Silver leads UNH in both sacks (7.5) and tackles for loss (12.5), and he ranks third in total tackles with 33.
