Keene sticks with DeCost

After finishing the 2024 season as Keene High School’s interim head coach, Shawn DeCost has been hired as the program’s varsity football coach on a full-time basis.

DeCost was elevated from defensive coordinator to interim head coach after Linwood Patnode resigned as Keene’s head coach late last season. Patnode was hired as Keene’s coach in 2019.

“I was with the team as an assistant for five seasons before that, so I know how the program runs, how the team runs,” DeCost said. “I think it was a perfect fit for me, and a good fit for the school, too.”

DeCost graduated from Nashua South and Franklin Pierce University, and played football at both schools. He also coached at Franklin Pierce when the school fielded a sprint football team (weight limit).

“The defense and special teams will mainly remain the same because I was running those before (replacing Patnode),” DeCost said. “Some still think of us as all wishbone, but we changed the offense last year and we’ll probably do even more spread stuff next season.”
