Bedford turns to Babaian

Bedford High School has hired former Pelham High School coach Tom Babaian as its varsity football coach.

Babaian guided Pelham to four consecutive state championships — two in Division III and then two in Division IV — before he resigned after the 2023 season. Pelham had won 41 straight games when he stepped down. At the time it was the four longest winning streak in the nation.

Babaian spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Pinkerton Academy.

He replaces Zach Matthews, who resigned after last season to become the head football coach and assistant athletic director at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va.

Matthews guided Bedford to the Division I championship in 2022, 2023 and 2025. The Bulldogs also reached the Division I semifinals in 2024.
