CHaD Practice: Day 3

Notes from the third day of practice for this year’s CHaD New Hampshire East/West All-Star Game, which will be played Saturday (5:30 p.m. kickoff) at Saint Anselm College:

EAST

Timberlane’s Tyler Furey, who was expected to be one of the East’s featured backs, suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and did not practice Monday. East head coach Craig Kozens said he’s hopeful Furey will be able to play Saturday.  Charles Sibanda (Salem), Mike Lewis (Winnacunnet), Brian Auffant (Winnacunnet) and Joey Auger (Portsmouth) are among the East’s other running backs. … Kozens said he’s happy with where his team is in terms of preparation after three days of practice: “We’re in a good place right now,” he said. “It’s a good group of kids with a high football IQ. We’re happy. It’s a pretty talented group.” …  Kozens said he’s been very impressed with Timberlane quarterback Jason Hughes. “He’s the real deal with his feet and his arm,” Kozens said. “He makes great reads.” … The East is scheduled to practice from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at West High School on Tuesday. Kozens said part of Tuesday practice will feature full contact. “We’ll hit a little, then we’ll back off. After that we have Wednesday, Thursday and about an hour on the field Friday before the hay is in the barn.”

WEST

The West spent a good chunk of Monday’s practice working on special teams. Manchester Central’s Jacob Stanko and Newport’s C.J. Lawrence have each been doing the punting and placekicking. “They’ll do a good job for us,” West coach Paul Lavigne said.  … Lavigne said he’s been very pleased with quarterbacks J.T. Hiscoe (Bishop Guertin) and Casey Gervais (Goffstown). “Both are playing great, great quarterback,” he said. “They really are. We have to figure out a way to get them an equal amount of playing time.” … Bedford offensive lineman Bobby Heald returned to practice after missing Sunday’s workout with a fever. … Lavigne said defensive line looks like a team strength. Defensive end Tim Comeau (Goffstown), defensive tackle Mike Muchemore (Nashua North), defensive tackle Kody Palladino and defensive end Evan Bolagnani are the expected starters. “Those four kids are really doing a fabulous job,” Lavigne said. … The West is scheduled to practice from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Manchester Memorial. The practice will be shorter than originally planned, Lavigne said, because captains will be selected after the workout.
