Coach’s comment: “Our strength will be up front,” Boone said. “We could have a dominant line. Between the offense and the defense, our defense is the stronger unit. I think we’re gonna fly under the radar a little bit. People are expecting Stevens, Monadnock and Kearsarge to be the top teams in our division.”
Footnotes: Graduation hit Newport heavy in the offensive backfield, where the Tigers will have to replace the production of tailback Noah Wade (1,847 yards rushing, 31 TDs) and fullback CJ Lawrence (793 yards rushing, 15 TDs). The Tigers have plenty of experience returning in their offensive line, however, and senior Dylan McNamara is back at quarterback. McNamara completed 28 of 47 passes for 418 yards and six TDs last season). …  Bill Thurlow is in his 51st season as an assistant coach on the Newport staff. … Last year’s 48-14 victory over Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough in the Division III championship game handed Newport its 10th state title.
