The top 10 high school football teams in New Hampshire, voted by the staffs of the New Hampshire Union Leader and ESPN New Hampshire, with record, first-place votes/points in parentheses, plus last week’s ranking:

1. Bedford, 1-0 (6/69), 1st

Bulldogs had all they could handle with Merrimack.

2. Merrimack, 0-1 (59), T-2nd

It took the Tomahawks three quarters to find fourth gear in their loss to Bedford.

3. Exeter, 1-0 (54), T-2nd

Blue Hawks opened with a convincing victory over Dover.

4. Pinkerton, 1-0 (46), 5th

Astros have an interesting matchup with Goffstown on Friday night.

5. Goffstown, 1-0 (1/40), 4th

Goffstown program has won 15 in a row.

6. Salem, 1-0 (35), 6th

The Blue Devils may be better than many expected.

7. Windham, 1-0 (27), 7th

The Jaguars surrendered a lot of yards through the air against Hollis/Brookline, but still posted a convincing victory.

8. Nashua North, 1-0 (16) NR

Offense doesn’t appear to be a problem for any of the Nashua teams.

9. Timberlane, 1-0 (15), 10th

Division I South could easily have five teams in the poll.

10. John Stark, 1-0 (10), NR

No surprise here. Generals are for real.
