MASCAC honors PSU players

Former Milford High School standout Mitch Banuskevich was one of  three Plymouth State University football players honored Monday by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for their performances in the Panthers’ season-opening victory last Saturday.

Junior Blair Zentek was named MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week; freshman David Hamilton was tabbed as MASCAC Rookie of the Week; and Banuskevich was on the MASCAC Weekly Honor Roll. They were key players in PSU’s 20-7 victory over Castleton University in last Saturday’s debut.

A 5-11, 179-pound safety, Zentek collected two interceptions, recovered a fumble, and made three tackles in Saturday’s contest at Castleton. He helped the Panthers defense limit the Spartans to 182 yards (133 passing, 49 rushing).

A 5-7, 191-pound running back, Hamilton made an impressive showing in his collegiate debut. He rushed 16 times for 64 yards and one touchdown, a one-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

A 5-11, 170-pound running back, Banuskevich accumulated 101 yards from scrimmage out of the Panther backfield in the win over Castleton. He rushed for 52 yards on 15 carries and caught three passes for 49 yards. He scored a touchdown on PSU’s first possession to give the Panthers an early lead.

The Panthers, 1-0, will make the home debut this Saturday at Currier Field at 1:00 against Mount Ida College.
