UNH wins on Homecoming

DURHAM – Sophomore quarterback Trevor Knight (Amherst) ran for one touchdown and passed for another and the defense turned in its best performance of the season to lead the University of New Hampshire football team to a 21-12 win over No. 19 William & Mary on Saturday in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a Wildcat home game.

Attendance for the Homecoming game in the new Wildcat Stadium was 21,943.

UNH improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association. William & Mary fell to 2-3 and 0-2.

Knight carried the ball 16 times for 95 yards and a 28-yard score. Senior running back Dalton Crossan rushed 27 times for 98 yards and scored on a 1-yard run.

Senior linebacker Ryan Farrell made a key interception early in the fourth quarter that helped the Wildcats take control of the game.

  • The Wildcats play at Elon on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 3:30 p.m.
  • Elon won at William & Mary, 27-10, on Sept. 24.
  • The Phoenix lost at No. 14 Villanova, 42-7, on Saturday.
  • UNH returns to Wildcat Stadium to face James Madison on Saturday, Oct. 15 at noon 

‘CAT NIPS

  • The Wildcats rushed for 252 yards in the game.
  • They collected 370 total yards of offense.
  • The UNH defense held William & Mary to just 235 yards of offense.
  • Junior safety D’Andre Drummond-Mayrie led UNH with seven tackles.
  • Senior linebacker DeVaughn Chollette and redshirt freshman safety Michael Balsamo (Atkinson) each had five tackles.
  • Freshman cornerback Prince Smith, Jr.  junior defensive end Jae’Wuan Horton  and sophomore linebacker Jared Kuehl (Plymouth) each had a sack.
  • Senior cornerback Casey DeAndrade also had an interception, his second of the season.
  • Knight completed 13 of his 23 passes for 118 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception.
  • Junior Trevon Bryant rushed 11 times for 52 yards.
  • Sophomore wide receiver Neil O’Connor had four catches for 38 yards and redshirt freshman Malik Love had four for 33 yards.
  • Junior Max Pedinoff  averaged 47.7 yards on his three punts.
