Hill’s big day not enough

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore Kyle Hill posted a career-high 150 yards receiving on seven catches, including a touchdown, but the Saint Anselm College football team suffered a 63-20 setback at No. 21 LIU Post on Saturday afternoon in Brookville, N.Y.

The Hawks fell to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference. LIU Post remained unbeaten at 6-0 and 5-0 in conference games.

In addition to Hill’s big day, senior Ryan Monette became the program’s all-time leader in kick-return yardage as he had five returns for 104 yards on the day. Monette currently sits at 1,931 career return yards, surpassing the record held by Keith Charles (2010-13). Monette also added three catches for 32 yards in the game.

Yianni Gavalas also broke a Saint Anselm record, as he became the all-time leader in career passing yards with 7,146 yards, breaking the record set by Michael Pierce (2009-11). Gavalas ended the day going 21 of 39 for 308 yards with a pair of touchdowns and three interceptions. Gavalas is seven touchdown passes shy of becoming the all-time leader in that category as well.

Joe Hayman was the top rusher for Saint Anselm, picking up 30 yards on 12 carries. He also added four kick returns for 92 yards.

Zach Bartak, the NCAA’s leading receiver, registered three catches for 76 yards, including a 61-yarder, in the setback.

Defensively, Eric Mercer led the defense with nine tackles, including one for a loss, while Isaiah Douglas had eight stops.

LIU Post quarterback Jeff Kidd led the Pioneers’ offense by completing 21 of 30 passes for 201 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Nine LIU Post players registered a reception led by eight catches and 74 yards for Shane Hubbard.

David White ran the ball 15 times for 134 yards and a pair of scores.

Defensively, Ryan Renfroe and Connor Farrell led the Pioneers with five tackles apiece with Kenny Scotland, Joshua Flowers and Nate Feliz recording interceptions.

LIU Post had 532 yards of net offense, and was 9 of 12 on third-down conversions.
