Date for CHaD game set

The  2017 CHaD New Hampshire East-West High School All-Star Game will be played on a Friday night for the first time in the game’s six-year history. The CHaD game is scheduled for June 30 and will be played at St. Anselm College’s Grappone Stadium in Goffstown.

The head coaches for the game are former Manchester Central coach Jim Schubert  (West) and Laconia High School’s Craig Kozens (East).

Schubert, who led West to a 13-7 victory in 2013, is back for a third season with West. He also served as the team’s athletic director in 2012. During 16 years of coaching Central, Schubert guided his team to six titles in eight trips to the Division I championship game.

His success at Central was recognized earlier this month when the football field at Gill Stadium was named in his honor.

Kozens has been involved with the all-star game for five seasons and 2017. This is the third time he has been the East’s head coach. Kozens led East to its first victory in the series, 29-15, in 2015, and directed the East to a 28-14 triumph last year.

Kozens has been Laconia’s head coach for 16 seasons. He guided the Sachems to four straight Division IV title game appearances, from 2006-2009, and won the title with an unbeaten team in 2007.

Player nominations are being accepted from New Hampshire high school coaches until Nov. 11. Coaching staffs and the event’s football committee will review nominations, and rosters will be announced in January.

The game, presented by the Bedford and Nashua Ambulatory Surgical Centers, benefits the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and the Kristen’s Gift Endowment Fund that supports CHaD pediatric oncology patients.
