South named Team of the Week

Nashua South Purple Panthers

With a postseason berth on the line, Nashua South overcame a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Dover, 33-32, Saturday at Stellos Stadium.

South finalized the scoring when quarterback Sean Holland tossed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Derek Downing on fourth down with 43.1 seconds remaining in the game. Downing had 10 receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

Earlier in the fourth quarter Taevon Olson returned an interception to the Dover 1-yard line, and Holland scored on the next play to help cut Dover’s lead to 32-27.

The game featurned 13 turnovers, seven by the Purple Panthers.

The victory earned South (6-3) the No. 4 seed in the Division I East/West bracket. South will play at No. 1 Exeter (8-1) Saturday.

The loss eliminated Dover (6-3) from playoff contention. The Green Wave lost a three-way tiebreaker with with South and Bishop Guertin because it lost to both of those teams during the regular season.
