TOP 10 GAMES FROM 2016
No. 8: John Stark 42, Plymouth 35

There were plenty of points scored when these two undefeated teams met in Weare, but it was a backup linebacker who came up with the game-deciding play.

Filling in for the injured Gavin Maclver, John Stark’s David Hewey intercepted a pass with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and returned it for a touchdown that broke a 35-35 tie.

John Stark’s Cooper Gorski caught five touchdown passes from Drew McQuarrie to help the Generals improve their record to 7-0. John Stark trailed 14-0 and 21-7 in the first half.

Plymouth (6-1) running back Garrett Macomber rushed for 247 yards in the loss. He scored three first-half touchdowns to give the Bobcats a 21-7 lead, but McQuarrie hit Gorski with a 13-yard TD pass as time expired in the first half, and then connected with Gorski for a 57-yard TD pass on the first play of the second half to help even the score, 21-21.

McQuarrie’s 24-yard TD pass to Gorski in the third quarter helped the Generals take a 28-21 lead — their first lead of the game.

Stark led 35-28 when Plymouth’s Owen Brickley intercepted a McQuarrie pass with 5:04 to play, and then scored on a 58-run to help the Bobcats tie the game.

Plymouth forced John Stark to punt on its next possession, and then Hewey intercepted a slant pass and returned the ball 45 yards for the game’s final TD.

Plymouth moved to the John Stark 20 on its final possession, but a pass fell incomplete in the end zone on the game’s final play.
