TOP 10 GAMES FROM 2016
No. 5: I-L/M 34, Bishop Brady 28

Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough had to battle back from a 14-point deficit twice in the this contest, which determined a berth in the Division III championship game.

It ended in overtime. After Bishop Brady failed to score on its OT possession, I-L/M running back Andrew Brothers began his team’s possession with a 10-yard touchdown run that handed the Lakers a 34-28 victory.

It was the second of two TD runs in the game for Brothers, who gained 103 yards on 25 carries.

Bishop Brady quarterback Joe Bernard threw for 118 yards and three touchdowns in the opening half, when the Green Giants took a 14-0 lead. He found Aidan Plumpton for a 20-yard TD strike, and then connected with Kenneth Fusco on a crossing route for a 37-yard touchdown.

I-L/M responded when quarterback Ryan Kelley capped a 65-yard drive by tossing a TD pass to Jayden Lara, but Bishop Brady regained 14-point lead when Bernard completed a 28-yard TD pass to Richard Sullivan.

The Lakers began to climb out of their 21-7 hole late in the first half on a Brothers’ 3-yard TD run. Kelly helped tie the game when he scored on a fourth-and-5 play from the Bishop Brady 9-yard line early in the third, and then gave the Lakers their first lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zach Swanson (10 receptions for 90 yards) with 11:10 remaining in the fourth.

Kelly completed 18 of 35 passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. He was intercepted once.

The Green Giants, who dropped a 35-7 decision to I-L/M earlier in the season, tied the contest on Plumpton’s 1-yard run with 9:44 left in regulation.

That set the stage for the events that unfolded in overtime.
