Shrine Camp: Day 2

The New Hampshire team had one of its three practices shortened by thunder and lightning Monday, but according to New Hampshire coach Rob Cathcart the team is still on schedule.

“There’s just a few more things that we have to install,” he said. “You just try to get as good as you can in terms of executions by game time.”

New Hampshire is scheduled to meet Vermont on Saturday (5:30 p.m.) at Castleton (Vt.) University. Vermont ended a 15-game losing streak when it beat New Hampshire 50-2 in last year’s game. It was the largest margin of victory in the game’s history.

New Hampshire had a 47-14-2 edge in the series.

“I can’t control what Vermont puts on the field,” Cathcart said. “They’re bigger than we are, I know that, and they have some offensive weapons for sure. I don’t know that we have an area that stands out. We’re scrappy and athletic all over.”

Cathcart said Merrimack Valley quarterback/wide receiver Evan Martin, Campbell tight end Harrison Vedrani and Stevens running back/defensive back Richard Bell were among those who stood out in practice Monday.

Cathcart said New Hampshire will likely vote on team captains following Tuesday’s practice sessions. New Hampshire has three practices scheduled Tuesday. It will also be media day at Castleton.
