WALTHAM, Mass. – The St. Anselm College football team fell to 0-2 following a 50-14 loss at Bentley on Friday night.
Bentley (1-1) cruised to its third-straight victory over the Hawks since the 2015 season.
Junior quarterback Eric Fairweather scored both St. Anselm touchdowns, the first on a 2-yard run in the second stanza and the second on a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter. Bentley netted nearly 500 yards of total offense (490) while limiting the Hawks to only 201 total yards on the evening.
Bentley opened up a 24-0 lead through the game’s first 20:44 using two passing touchdowns, a Mack Lowrie 50-yard run and a 25-yard field goal by the Falcons’ Grant Buchanan. Following Fairweather’s 2-yard jaunt, Bentley rounded out the first half with a safety, creating a 26-7 halftime score.
Buchanan added another field goal on the first drive of the second half before a touchdown reception by Drew Mahoney opened up a 36-7 advantage for the home team. Fairweather’s second score slowed the Falcons’ momentum, but back-to-back touchdowns by Bentley concluded the fourth quarter.
Fairweather was his team’s leading rusher, netting 55 yards on 17 carries, while completing 13 of his 23 passes for 78 yards. Brian Zec caught four passes for Saint Anselm, registering 25 yards, and James Sullivan joined Kyle Hill with three receptions. Zaywhon Johnson returned five kicks, including a 36-yard return to lead players from both teams.
Andrew Vogl made eight tackles for Saint Anselm, leading the defense. Tanner Jillson hauled in a wayward pass from Bentley, returning the pick 12 yards.
Lowrie and Sturm combined to complete 17 of 25 passes for the Falcons. Austin Ryan caught five passes for a team-best 152 yards. Andrew Brazicki equaled Lowrie with one rushing touchdown and Mahoney matched Ryan with two touchdown catches. Andy Carmichael led Bentley with nine total tackles.
