UNH lands wide receiver

The University of New Hampshire has received a verbal commitment from Charles Briscoe, a 6-foot, 174-pound wide receiver from St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C.

Briscoe helped St. John’s win the WCAC title last season. St. John’s beat Gonzaga 30-7 in the championship game to complete its season with a 9-2 record.

Briscoe finished his senior season with 29 receptions for 657 yards and six touchdowns.

St. John’s played some of the toughest competition in the country. It’s non-conference schedule included games against De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). St. John’s beat St. Joseph, but its two losses came against De La Salle (35-31) and St. Jonhn Bosco (21-17). In addition, the Cadets beat DeMatha (Md.) twice.

Briscoe also had offers from Albany, Youngstown State, Howard, Morgan State, and Robert Morris.

Briscoe became the second player to commit to UNH in the last week. Derek Thompson, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back from Appoquinimink High School in West Middetown, Del., committed to UNH last Monday.

Briscoe and Thompson can make their commitments binding by signing a national letter of intent on Feb. 7.
