Belsky signs with Bentley

Windham High School’s Royce Belsky has signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Division II Bentley University, where he is expected to play linebacker.

Belsky played fullback and linebacker for the Jaguars last season, when he served as a team captain.

“It is clear in our offensive run-orientated system that the fullback plays a key role, not only for blocking for a wing back but traditionally they are our leading rushers,” Windham coach Bill Raycraft said. “That was the case this year as Royce and Cody Stevens shared the load. Powerful lead blocks led the way for the other running backs but Royce pounded the ball 60 times for a team leading 509 yards rushing (8.84 avg) on his way to five touchdowns.

“When not in at fullback we would at times utilize his power back running style at the wing back position as he did in the pivotal regular season game versus then undefeated St. Thomas as he rushed 20 for 106 yards and two TDs.”

Belsky played both middle linebacker and outside linebacker last season. He finished the season with 40 tackles (five tackles for loss), two sacks and a pass breakup.

“Royce had a great football IQ and was a coach on the field in both practice and games,” Raycraft said. “Great natural ability combined with a year-round work ethic made him one of the best linebackers in the state.”
