MASCAC honors Szulc, Shea

PLYMOUTH –  Plymouth State University juniors Jacob Szulc (Concord, N.H.) and Matt Shea (Windham, N.H.) were selected to the MASCAC Football Weekly Honor Roll after their contributions to the Panthers’ 29-28 win over Framingham State last weekend.

A 6-foot-2 wide receiver, Szulc had a career day after hauling in four catches for a career-high 149 yards. One play after falling behind 20-13 in the fourth quarter, his 80-yard TD reception down the left sideline the Panthers pull even. It was the third 100-yard receiving game of Szulc’s career and the most receiving yards for a Panthers’ receiver since the 2015 season.

A 5-foot-8 defensive back, Shea led the Panthers with a team-high eight tackles (six solo). His biggest contribution came on the Rams’ second to last play from scrimmage. On third and 19 from PSU’s 41-yard line, Shea knocked an FSU receiver out of bounds at the 35-yard line forcing a Hail Mary attempt as opposed to a field goal try with less than 20 seconds to play.

It was the first weekly honor for Szulc. Shea picked up his second weekly recognition of the season.

Plymouth State (3-3, 2-3 MASCAC) will be at home for another league contest Saturday, when the Panthers will face Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Currier Field (1 p.m.).
