Washington named top rookie

RICHMOND, Va. – University of New Hampshire freshman running back Carlos Washington, Jr. was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday. It is the second time this season Washington, Jr. has received this accolade; he was previously honored Oct. 29.

Washington rushed for a game-high 142 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries – an average of 12.9 yards per carry – in New Hampshire’s 24-10 victory against UAlbany at Wildcat Stadium on Nov. 10.

Washington broke loose for a 93-yard scoring run that gave UNH a 17-3 lead at 3:11 of the third quarter. It was the longest run by a Wildcat since Sept. 21, 1996, when Jerry Azumah scored on a 96-yard run vs. UConn.

Washington put the Wildcats in position for their first touchdown of the game. On first and goal from the Albany 10, his back-to-back carries gained 9 yards to set up the 1-yard quarterback keeper by Trevor Knight that gave UNH a 7-3 lead at 3:12 of the first quarter.

New Hampshire ends the 2018 season Saturday (noon) at the University of Rhode Island.
