Banuskevich earns postseason honor

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth State University senior Mitch Banuskevich, a Milford resident, is one of 47 student-athletes recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) released its 2018 Fall Sportsmanship Team on Wednesday.

Banuskevich was selected as the Plymouth State University football representative to the team. The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team in every sport that best demonstrates the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement.

An All-MASCAC First Team Defense selection at defensive back and Second Team Offense selection at return specialist, Banuskevich entered the season 10th among Plymouth State’s all-time rushing leaders, but transitioned to a new role with the Panthers’ defense. He finished fourth on the team with 48 tackles (32 solo) and led the defense with two interceptions. As a returner he led the conference with a 29.1 yard average on kickoffs and 13.3 yard average on punts.

Led by 16-year veteran head coach Paul Castonia the Panthers finished the season with a 6-4 overall mark and a 5-3 record in league play.
