TOP 10 GAMES FROM 2018
No. 9: Alvirne 12, John Stark 6

Four quarters weren’t enough to determine a winner in this defensive battle. Matters weren’t settled after one overtime either.

Alvirne capped the scoring on Alec Prescott’s 3-yard touchdown run in the second overtime, and then stopped John Stark at the 1-yard line on its overtime possession to earn a 12-6 victory that improved the team’s Division II record to 6-1.

Prescott’s TD came after three runs by quarterback Kyle Gora set up Alvirne with a fourth-and-goal situation from the 3.

Alvirne was limited to 116 yards of offense in the game, but the Broncos held John Stark (4-3) to 82. The Generals held the Broncos to 16 yards and one first down in the second half.

Each team scored on its first possession. John Stark (4-3) took a 6-0 lead when Jacob Cole capped a 14-play, 52-yard drive with a 3-yard TD with 6:15 left in the first quarter. Cole carried the ball on 12 of the 14 plays and gained 42 of the 52 yards in the drive. He ran for 76 yards on 24 carries in the loss.

Alvirne responded with a 12-play, 63-yard drive and tied the game on Owen Pedi’s 5-yard TD run. A 37-yard pass from Gora to Jack Regan on a third-and-six play kept the drive alive.

That was it for the scoring until the second overtime, although Alvirne blocked a John Stark field goal attempt and also stopped the Generals on a fourth-and-goal play from the 1.

John Stark fumbled on its first overtime possession, but Aaron Bergeron forced a second OT when he blocked an Alvirne field goal attempt.

Prescott’s TD run came moments later, and the Alvirne defense did the rest.
