TOP 10 GAMES FROM 2018
No. 5: Alvirne 36, Milford 35

Trailing Milford by a point following a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Alvirne coach Tarek Rothe wanted no part of overtime. Instead, he chose to attempt a two-point conversion and was rewarded for his decision.

After making it a 35-34 game on quarterback Kyle Gora’s 1-yard sneak, Alvirne completed its comeback from a 35-14 deficit and capped the scoring when running back Alex Giuffrida found the end zone on the conversion.

After returning the kickoff to the Alvirne 40-yard line the Spartans had time for one Hail Mary pass that was knocked down, handing the Broncos the one-point victory.

Alvirne trailed 28-14 at halftime and 35-20 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Milford 16-0 over the final 12 minutes to complete the regular season with a 7-2 record.

After Jack Regan’s touchdown catch sliced MIlford’s lead to 21-14 in the first half, the Spartans seemed to break the game open with two Victor Garcia touchdowns. His first TD came before halftime, and then he scored on a 70-yard run in the third quarter.

Alvirne completed the unlikely comeback by scoring three touchdowns in the game’s final 4:30, which set up a rematch between the teams in the Division II quarterfinals. Alvirne won that matchup 32-19, which was the program’s first playoff victory.
