Memorial had reason to celebrate

NHFR TEAM OF THE WEEK
Manchester Memorial Crusaders

Memorial provided one of the top storylines to the high school season’s first weekend by beating Timberlane 14-7 to end the program’s 36-game losing streak. It was Memorial’s first victory since it beat Manchester Central on Thanksgiving in 2014.

Memorial scored on Jeffrey Josefik’s quarterback sneak late in the first half, and Rob Fuller’s 13-yard run 50 seconds into the fourth quarter. Things got dicey for the Crusaders late in the fourth, however.

Timberlane sliced into its 14-0 deficit on Dominic Pallaria’s 5-yard touchdown run and made things extra-interesting by recovering the onside kick. Timberlane drove to the Memorial 2-yard line on its final possession, but failed to find the end zone.

It was the first coaching victory for Rob Sturgis, who is in his second season as Memorial’s head coach. The Crusaders finished 0-9 in each of the previous four seasons.
