Bishop Guertin had to overcome some significant obstacles en route to a 20-0 victory over city rival Nashua South on Saturday night at Stellos Stadium.

Each of South’s first six offensive possessions began on BG’s half of the field. Then, with two quarterbacks already out with injuries, BG lost QB Josh Larson to an injury in the first quarter.

That forced the Cardinals to use wide receiver Joey Lupo behind center, and he made the most of the position change by rushing for three touchdowns to help BG improve its Division I record to 1-1. He gained 191 yards on 16 carries.

Lupo’s TDs came on runs of 18, 84 and 52 yards. He also completed a pass to tight end Kyle Baker for a two-point conversion that gave the Cardinals a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.

The BG defense did its part as well by holding South to 142 yards of offense (31 in the first half).

The loss dropped South to 1-1.
