Hawks overmatched at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Saint Anselm College football team rounded out its non-league schedule on Saturday, posting a 55-6 loss to the Dragons from Tiffin University at Frost-Kalnow Stadium.

Saint Anselm fell to 0-5 on the season while Tiffin, the owner of a 9-2 record last season, moved to 4-1 with the result. To date, the Hawks have played the second-toughest schedule in the Northeast-10 Conference – Saint Anselm opponents have registered 18 wins through Oct. 3.

Tiffin built up a 27-0 lead at halftime and led by as much as 48-0 before senior quarterback Eric Fairweather (Londonderry) sprinted home for a 3-yard touchdown with 5:07 left in regulation. Fairweather moves to third all-time in team history with 25 rushing scores, passing Jon Turner, who logged 24 from 1999 through 2001.

The Dragons racked up 586 yards of offense in the game, throwing five passing touchdowns with three rushing scores en route to the victory. Despite Saint Anselm owning an edge in time of possession, Tiffin averaged 7.3 yards per play and forced the Hawks into four punts and two missed field goals in the first half.

The second half was much of the same for Saint Anselm. A stout Tiffin defense opened the second half by forcing a punt before back-to-back turnovers on downs. The remaining Hawks offensive drives ended via an interception, another turnover on downs and two punts aside from the Fairweather rushing touchdown.

Fairweather finished the day with 14 carries for 41 yards while completing 19-of-41 passes for 206 yards. Senior wide receiver Nicholas Fiorillo (Westford, Mass.) led the way with 10 catches for 102 yards, recording his second 100-yard performance of the season. Junior Charles Elliott (Memphis, Tenn.) caught four passes for 57 yards.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by junior Ryan Sullivan (Stoughton, Mass.) and his eight tackles. Senior CJ Miller (Clinton, Md.) posted six tackles along with a 16-yard sack and a forced fumble. The Hawks also recovered two fumbles as senior Seamus Oeser (Brookfield, Conn.) and freshman Max Tempchin (Silver Spring, Md.) each had one to their credit.

The Hawks host New Haven to reopen Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday at 6 p.m.
