Shrine Camp: Day 3

68th Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl

The third day of practice for this year’s Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl was an eventful one for the New Hampshire team, which selected its five captains: Uly Ellis (Exeter), Caleb Hobbs (Mascoma), Nate Lemire (Merrimack), Cody Bannon (Plymouth) and Garrett Whitney (Exeter). … New Hampshire also had its active roster trimmed to 33 players when two players from Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton — Vincent Waddell and Alex Brown — left the team for personal reasons, and two others were ruled out with injuries. Landry said quarterback Cody Clements (Salem) was sent home with multiple injuries, including a collapsed lung, and Newport’s Josh Orlowski suffered a concussion. Clements was scheduled to share the QB duties with Bannon. Chris Keefe, who played QB at Nashua South, was moved to running back earlier this week, but will now take reps at quarterback as well. … Saturday’s game will be played at Castleton University’s David Wolk Stadium (12:30 p.m.). New Hampshire leads the series 48-17-2. … Nashua North’s Lucas Cunningham will handle the place-kicking duties for New Hampshire. Campbell’s Kyle Wark will be the punter. … Tuesday was also Media Day at Castleton. Several people — including some who were treated at Shriners’ Hospitals — spoke to the teams. “There was one older gentleman who spoke about the hospital and how it improved his quality of life, and Kristi Morris (the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl general chairman) spoke about the game’s purpose and goals,” Landry said. … Tickets for Saturday’s game are $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-17 if ordered online. Children age 5 and under get in free. Tickets purchased on the day of the game are $20 for adults, $15 for children ages 6-17 with age 5 and under remaining free. Tickets can be ordered online at www.shrinemaplesugarbowl.com.
