St. Paul’s wins opener

Quarterback Trevor Smith ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead St. Paul’s School to a 38-35 victory over Hamden Hall on Saturday.

St. Paul’s built a 38-21 fourth-quarter lead, but Hamden Hall QB Ethan Coady scored on run of 5 and 2 yards to help cut the deficit to three points. Coady ran for 129 yards and three TDs, and completed 14 of 24 passes for 196 yards and a TD.

The loss dropped Hamden Hall’s record to 1-1. It was the season opener for St. Paul’s.
