Playoff Scenarios: Division II

FOOTNOTES

NOTE: The following are projected Division II playoff pairings entering Week 9. The NHIAA Football Point Rating, which will be used to select and seed playoff teams, is explained below:

DIVISION II
Projected Playoff Pairings

No. 8 Bow at No. 1 Timberlane
No. 7 Souhegan at No. 2 Lebanon
No. 6 Hanover at No. 3 St. Thomas
No. 5 Plymouth at No. 4 Milford

NOTE: These projections assume the following Week 9 results:  St. Thomas over Gilford/Belmont; Kennett over Kingswood; Pembroke over Merrimack Valley; Plymouth over Sanborn; Timberlane over Milford; Bow over West; Hanover over Hollis/Bookline; Lebanon over Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton; Souhegan over John Stark. … The West at Bow matchup Saturday is the game that will likely determine the final piece to the Division II playoff puzzle. The winner will be in good position to make the eight-team playoff field, while the losing team will likely be eliminated from playoff contention. … The fact that the Kennett at Gilford/Belmont game wasn’t played in Week 6 hurt each team’s playoff chances. Gilford-Belmont could still get in if it upsets St. Thomas and Bow beats Manchester West. … If Milford beats Timberlane the Spartans will be seeded No. 1 or No. 2, depending on the outcome of the Lebanon/H-DH game. … Lebanon will earn the No. 1 seed if it beats H-DH and Milford defeats Timberlane.

The NHIAA Football Point Rating awards 10 points for a victory and two points for each game a beaten opponent has won. So a victory over a team that’s 5-4 is worth 20 points — 10 for the win and two for each of the five games that team has won. A team’s point total is then divided by the number of games it played to determine its rating.
