MASCAC honors PSU players

PLYMOUTH – Sophomore Seth Disalvo (North Andover, Mass.) and junior Willie Lombard (Bridgewater, Mass.) were both recognized by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for their performances during the Plymouth State University football team’s season opening win over Castleton University on Saturday.

Disalvo was awarded Special Teams Player of the Week honors, while Lombard earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Disalvo drilled a pair of field goals, was a perfect two-for-two on extra points and added a forced fumble to help the Panthers top Castleton, 20-7, at Panther Field. Disalvo opened the scoring with a 20-yard field goal, then stripped the Spartans’ return man on the ensuing kickoff to set up a short field for PSU, resulting in a touchdown. He added a 32-yard field goal late in the first half.

Lombard racked up 144 all-purpose yards, including 98 on the ground, and added a pair of touchdowns. He began his day with a big 43-yard catch-and-run to setup Disalvo’s first field goal, then ripped off a 16-yard touchdown run after the Castleton turnover. Lombard’s second touchdown run capped a 16-play, 84-yard drive that chewed up more than 11 minutes between the third and fourth quarters, essentially putting the game out of reach.

The Panthers head to Bangor, Maine on Saturday for a non-conference clash with Husson.
