CAA honors UNH’s Laube

RICHMOND, Va. – Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.), a junior running back on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named CAA Football co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Laube carried UNH to a 28-23 road win against UAlbany on Sept. 10 that put the Wildcats atop the CAA standings at 2-0. He recorded career highs in rushes (32), rushing yards (202) and rushing touchdowns (three), and also had a punt return for 1 yard to finish with 203 all-purpose yards.

He entered the UAlbany game with personal bests of 16 carries, 133 rushing yards and two rushing TDs (twice).

The junior eclipsed 1,000 career rushing yards during his third career 100-yard rushing game and is currently at 1,084; he also surpassed 3,000 career all-purpose yards at 3,091.

Laube became the first Wildcat to rush for 200 or more yards in a game since Sept. 22, 2012, when Nico Steriti had 21 carries for 201 yards and two rushing TDs. Laube’s 202 rushing yards is the highest total by a Wildcat since UNH Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Azumah toted the ball 22 times for 259 yards against East Stroudsburg on Sept. 19, 1998.

Laube had eight rushes for 49 yards in the first quarter to help UNH take a 7-0 lead. His 2-yard touchdown run extended the advantage to 14-0 at 4:35 of the second quarter; he ran the ball five times for 19 yards on that scoring drive. Laube bounced off tacklers on a 9-yard TD run up the middle that gave the Wildcats a 21-3 advantage at 9:45 of the third quarter.

After UAlbany pulled within 21-16 late in the fourth quarter, UNH responded with a three-play, 75-yard drive in which the Wildcats handed the ball to Laube every play; he opened the drive with a 14-yard gain, followed that with a 24-yard scamper and then gained the edge on the left side to race down the sideline for a 37-yard touchdown at 1:49.

The Great Danes answered quickly with a TD to close the margin to 28-23 with 1:07 remaining. After New Hampshire recovered the onside kick attempt, the Wildcats gave the ball to Laube three consecutive plays to secure the victory.

In the fourth quarter, Laube had 14 rushes for 115 yards and a touchdown.
