CAA honors UNH’s Laube

RICHMOND, Va. – Dylan Laube (Westhampton, N.Y.), a junior running back on the University of New Hampshire football team, was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

It is Laube’s second CAA weekly award this season; he was previously honored as co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12. This is also UNH’s second Special Teams Player of the Week award this season; sophomore defensive end Josiah Silver (, Va.) was feted Sept. 5.

Laube tied a 41-year old school record for longest punt return with a 92-yard punt return for a touchdown in UNH’s 37-14 victory at Towson University on Sept. 24. The return, which gave the Wildcats a 10-0 lead with 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter, is the longest in FCS this season and the second-longest in CAA history.

Laube finished the game with 250 all-purpose yards, which included a team-best 114 yards rushing on 23 attempts as well as three catches for 11 yards and four punt returns for 125 yards. The 250 all-purpose yards ranks second in Laube’s career; he set the personal benchmark of 294 last year vs. Maine.

In addition to the TD return at Towson, Laube had a 15-yard punt return in the first quarter. He also had a 12-yard return in the second quarter that led to UNH’s second touchdown of the game and a 17-0 lead at 2:44. Laube’s six-yard punt return in the fourth quarter set up a 7-play scoring drive that culminated in a 42-yard field goal.

In the second half, Laube ran the ball 19 times for 96 yards to help UNH build on its 17-0 halftime lead and dominate second-half time of possession (22 minutes).

Laube leads FCS in punt return average (21.7) and ranks second in all-purpose yards (188.5 ypg). He is also No. 8 in rushing yards (423), No. 9 in total touchdowns (six), No. 12 in rushing TDs (five) and No. 14 in rushing yards per game (105.8).

New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 1 (6 p.m.) at Western Michigan University, an FBS program.
