PSU earns rematch with Husson

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth State University has been selected by the New England Football Committee to participate in the 2022 New England Bowl.

The Panthers, making their first appearance in the New England Bowl series, will visit Husson University on Saturday (Nov. 19) at noon in one of two New England Bowl games. MASCAC rival Bridgewater State University will host Catholic University in the other game.

Plymouth State ended the regular season with an 8-2 mark (6-2 MASCAC), falling to UMass Dartmouth in the regular season finale on Saturday in a de facto MASCAC championship game.

Senior running back Manny Sanchez (Hartford, Conn.) leads PSU with 769 rushing yards and 11 TDs, while sophomore quarterback Braden Lynn (Littleton, Mass.) has an impressive 143.10 QB rating, completing more than 64 percent of his passes for 1,289 yards and nine touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker Evan Wilson (Derry, N.H.) leads the defense with 80 tackles, including nine for a loss.

Saturday will be the sixth meeting between the two teams and the second this year, as PSU topped the Eagles, 17-0, in Week 2. The Panthers are 3-2 all-time against Husson, with the earlier season matchup proving the largest margin of victory.

The New England Bowl Committee is comprised of commissioners of four NCAA Division III conferences: the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC), the MASCAC and the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

The 2022 edition of the New England Bowl is the fifth time the commissioners are presenting multiple games to reward deserving teams in the New England region.
