Plymouth Regional head coach Chris Sanborn will serve as New Hampshire’s head coach for the 2023 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, which will be played Aug. 5 at Castleton (Vt.) University.

The all-star football game features 2023 graduates from New Hampshire and Vermont.

Sanborn spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach at Plymouth Regional before replacing Chuck Lenahan as the program’s head coach in 2014. Sanborn graduated from Plymouth State College in 1997 and began his coaching career at the New Hampton School.

Plymouth has reached the NHIAA Division II championship game five times since Sanborn became the program’s head coach. The Bobcats won the Division III championship in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Sanborn, who teaches at Plymouth Regional, played in the 1992 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl and served as an assistant coach for the 2021 game.

New Hampshire leads Vermont in the series 50-17-2.
