MASCAC honors Ughu, Wilson

PLYMOUTH – Nine members of the Plymouth State University football team earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) postseason recognition on Wednesday when the league announced its major awards winners and all-conference teams.

Sophomore Braden Lynn (Littleton, Mass.) took home the big honor as the quarterback was selected the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Junior Emmanuel Ughu (Milford, N.H.), sophomore Teddy Fellows (Topsfield, Mass.) and graduate student Thanos Boulukos (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) were voted All-MASCAC First Team, while sophomore Evan Wilson (Derry, N.H.), seniors Quinn Girard (Glens Falls, N.Y.), Bryan Warren (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and Manny Sanchez (Hartford, Conn.) and graduate student James Mauro (Commack, N.Y.) took home Second Team honors.

Plymouth State ended the regular season with an 8-2 overall mark, finishing tied for second in the MASCAC with a 6-2 league record. The Panthers were one of four New England teams to earn a postseason bowl game berth, as PSU will visit Husson in the New England Bowl on Saturday (Nov. 19).

Braden Lynn – Offensive Rookie of the Year:

  • A 6-2 quarterback, Lynn finished the regular season with a 143.10 QB rating, ranking second in the MASCAC with a 64.1% completion percentage. He was 107-of-167 for 1,289 yards and nine touchdowns, throwing for the most yards by a PSU quarterback since the 2018 season. This is his first postseason honor.

Emmanuel Ughu – All-MASCAC First Team Defense (Defensive Line):

  • A 6-1 defensive lineman, Ughu terrorized opposing offenses, finishing the year with 32 tackles, including 26 solo stops and 4.5 tackles for a loss. Ughu added three quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries, a pass breakup and blocked kick as PSU led the league in scoring defense. This is his first postseason honor.

Teddy Fellows – All-MASCAC First Team Offense (Tackle):

  • A 6-1 offensive lineman, Fellows started all ten games for the Panthers. His play on the line helped open holes for the PSU running game, as Plymouth State finished second in the league with 27 rushing TDs and fourth in rushing yards (1,670) and yards per game (167.0). This is his second straight season with First Team honors.

Thanos Boulukos – All-MASCAC First Team Offense (Full Back):

  • A 5-11 full back, Boulukos punished opposing defenses with his aggressive running and blocking. The 230-pound back pounded through the offensive line for four touchdowns, while he also created lanes for PSU’s other rushers to rip off large gains on the ground. This is his first postseason honor.

Quinn Girard – All-MASCAC Second Team Defense (Defensive Back):

  • A 5-8 defensive back, Girard finished top-ten in the league in tackles per game (6.1) and pass breakups (6). He finished the year second on the team with 61 tackles and 42 solo tackles and added a 26-yard interception return in a win at Worcester State. This is his first postseason honor.

Evan Wilson – All-MASCAC Second Team Defense (Inside Linebacker):

  • A 5-9 linebacker, Wilson has quickly established himself as one of the top defensive players in the league. His 80 tackles rank fifth in the MASCAC, while his 49 solo stops are tied for the third-most in the league. He added a team-best nine tackles for loss and even found the end zone on a 38-yard interception return TD in a win over Westfield State. This is his first postseason honor.

James Mauro – All-MASCAC Second Team Offense (Guard):

  • A 5-10 offensive lineman, Mauro played all ten games for the third straight season. His blocking helped the Panthers to 106 first downs on the ground and nearly 170 rushing yards per game. Plymouth State held the ball for better than 32 minutes per game to finish second in the league in time of possession. This is his second postseason honor after earning First Team recognition last fall.

Bryan Warren – All-MASCAC Second Team Offense (Tight End):

  • A 6-3 tight end, Warren was one of Lynn’s top targets. His 20 catches were second-most on the team while he finished with 233 yards and a touchdown. He finished the season with two of his best games, hauling in nine balls for 128 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ last two contests. This is his second-straight year earning Second Team honors.

Manny Sanchez – All-MASCAC Second Team Offense (Running Back):

  • A 5-10 running back, Sanchez finished the regular season with 769 yards on the ground, fourth-most in the league, for 85.44 yards per game. His 11 rushing TDs were second-most in the conference. Sanchez put up a season-best 131 rushing yards in the week two win at Husson and topped the century mark with 104 yards and three TDs in the win at Worcester State. This is his first postseason honor.
