MASCAC honors Derry’s Wilson

PLYMOUTH – Junior Evan Wilson (Derry, N.H.) was selected to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after a career-best day in Plymouth State’s season-opening setback at VTSU Castleton on Saturday.

Wilson was all over the field making a career-high 18 tackles, including 15 solo stops, but the Spartans were able to snatch the lead in the final two minutes for a 25-21 win over PSU. Wilson came up with a 9-yard sack and finished with 2.5 tackles for a loss for 13 yards in the contest.

Plymouth State held a 14-0 lead at the break, but VTSU Castleton rallied in the second half, scoring the game winning touchdown with just 1:38 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Panthers were able to drive to the Castleton 44-yard line but could not convert a fourth-and-2 as the Spartans held on.

Plymouth State opens its home slate on Saturday when the University of New England comes to Panthers Field. Kickoff is set for noon. PSU will recognize its 2022-23 NCAA Tournament participants during a halftime ceremony.
