Team of the Week: Campbell

Campbell Cougars

Campbell improved its record to 5-0 by beating Trinity 6-0 Friday night in a game between the only Division III teams that entered the weekend unbeaten.

Nick Hershberger scored the game’s only touchdown on a 2-yard run with 8:27 to play. The TD capped a nine-play, 46-yard drive. It was the first touchdown Trinity allowed this season.

“This game really came down to defense and turnovers,” Hershberger said. “Of course it’s amazing to win this, but we’re going to see these guys again. Really it’s just another regular season game. We’ve got to keep getting better every day.”

Campbell committed three of the game’s five turnovers, but all three came in a scoreless first half. Trinity fumbled the ball away twice in the second half. The second lost fumble occurred on a first-down play from the Campbell 12-yard line with 5:26 left in the fourth quarter.

Campbell hasn’t allowed a point in its last three games. The Cougars have outscored their five opponents 159-20 this season.
