NE10 honors Forkner

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Saint Anselm freshman quarterback Drew Forkner (Plano, Texas) was tabbed the Northeast-10 Conference’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season Monday after turning in a stellar performance in Saturday’s 24-17 victory over Bentley University.

Forkner led Saint Anselm to a second-half comeback against Bentley, completing 19 of 27 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns through the air. For the third straight game, Forkner also did not turn the ball over. The 24-17 win marked the second in program history for the Hawks over the Falcons, and the first since 2014.

Forkner also earned Rookie of the Week honors following his four-touchdown performance against Post University two weeks ago.

Fifth-year student Anthony Brown (Belton, Texas) along with seniors Will Klein (Abington, Mass.) and Devin Wood (Merrimack, N.H.) joined Forkner by earning spots on the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll.

In his first full game back from injury, Brown caught his first two passes of the season, both for touchdowns, including the game-tying 34-yard reception in the fourth quarter.

Klein was the team leader in total tackles with nine to go along with 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry.

Wood was a huge contributor for the Hawks as punter on special teams, sending away eight punts for a total of 307 yards, good enough for a 38.4 yard average. He also registered one punt inside the 20-yard line and had one of more than 50 yards. In addition, Wood made one of the biggest plays of the game for the Hawks while trailing in the fourth quarter. He lined up to punt, but faked the kick and rushed for 12 yards to pick up a first down on fourth-and-long from near midfield. The Hawks scored on the next play to tie the score.

Wood also made four tackles and recovered a fumble on defense.
