Forkner collects NE10 Award

MANSFIELD, Mass. — Sophomore quarterback Drew Forkner (Plano, Texas) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced in a release Monday afternoon.

In Saint Anselm’s 42-28 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday, the Forkner completed 17 of his 32 pass attempts for 276 yards (second-highest this season) and set a single-game career-high with five touchdown passes. Forkner, who earned a Rookie of the Week honor last season, also rushed the ball six times for 13 yards and did not turn the ball over. The win helped the Hawks improve to 5-1 in NE10 play this season to remain tied for first place with two games remaining.

Four of Forkner’s touchdown passes came in the first half to give the Hawks a comfortable 35-7 lead at the halftime break. In addition, three of his touchdowns were thrown to junior wide receiver Andrew Edwards (Cibolo, Texas), while fifth-year senior Blaine Burkhalter (Burnet, Texas) and senior Will Twadell (Marblehead, Mass.) hauled in a touchdown reception apiece. Three of Forkner’s five touchdown passes came on plays of 30 yards or longer.

This is the second Offensive Player of the Week award for a Saint Anselm student-athlete this season. It is the third weekly award for the program this fall, with Burkhalter earning Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago and freshman running back Jake Croce (Point Pleasant, N.J.) having earned Rookie of the Week honors back on Sept. 23.

Forkner and the Hawks host New Haven on Saturday (1 p.m.). The winner will have sole possession of first place in the league standings.
