Championship Preview: Division III

DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough vs. Campbell
Division III Bracket

When and where: Saturday (1 p.m.) at Souhegan High School.
Team records: Top-seeded Campbell is 10-0. Third-seeded ILMA is 9-1.
Regular-season result: Campbell won 34-12 in Meredith.
Noteworthy: ILMA trailed 20-12 entering the fourth quarter when these teams met during the regular season. The game turned on an interception that Campbell returned for a touchdown. “We didn’t make plays when we had opportunities to,” ILMA coach Guy Donnelly said. “We had the Pick 6, a dropped snap on a punt. We don’t want to beat ourselves. If they beat us so be it, but we need to make sure we don’t do things that hurt our chances.”  … Campbell’s Scott Hershberger  broke the NHIAA career rushing record when he gained 191 yards on 16 carries in a 50-22 victory over fourth-seeded Gilford in the Division III semifinals. He’s rushed for 1,930 yards on 142 attempts this season and has 6,066 yards rushing in his high school career. . … ILMA advanced with a 14-8 victory over second-seeded Monadnock in the semifinals. Quarterback Alec Adorno scored on a 54-yard run and tossed a 44-yard TD pass to Brogan Donnelly. Donnelly caught five passes for 71 yards in the win. … Adorno has completed 236 passes for 1,999 yards and 21 TDs this season. “They’re a true spread team,” Campbell coach Glen Costello said. “They look to go four and five wide, and the QB does a heck of a job getting them the ball.” …  Nick Hershberger, Scott’s twin brother, has run for 744 yards and 95 carries. Campbell enters the weekend as one of three unbeaten NHIAA teams in the state, joining Bedford and Exeter. … The Lakers have allowed 82 points this season. Campbell has scored at least 28 points in each of its games, and has surpassed 40 points six times. “When people talk about Inter-Lakes football they talk about how much we pass, but the defense has really shined this season,” Donnelly said. “They play really hard and they play physical. I’d say it’s the strength of our team.” … The Cougars are in the championship game for the third straight season. Campbell beat Trinity for the title in 2022, but lost to Trinity in last year’s championship game. “Three championship games in a row — that’s pretty special for a small community,” Costello said. … This is the first time ILMA has reached the championship game since 2016, when the Lakers were upset by Stevens, 46-20.
