Shrine Camp: Day 5

Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl

NEW HAMPSHIRE FOOTBALL REPORT MEMBERSHIPS

New Hampshire and Vermont will each have two practices Friday before taking the field for Saturday’s Shine Maple Sugar Bowl at Vermont State University-Castleton (11:30 a.m.). New Hampshire coach Jim Corkum said Thursday was his team’s best day of practice all week. “We’d tried to rep a game situation on Wednesday,” Corkum said. “No coaches in the huddle. We tried to call plays from the sidelines, and it was a little eye-opening that we had a couple guys who just didn’t know their stuff as we thought they did, so we put an emphasis on some review (Thursday) and went back to do it again and it went much smoother. Seemed like the kids were more crisp and knew their stuff better.” … Corkum said he will call the offense on Saturday and Ryan Daniels, one of his assistants at Concord High School, will call the defense. … Souhegan’s Tyler Ford holds the record for longest field goal in the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl. Ford made a 42-yard kick in the 2013 game. … Corkum said defensive back David Souther (Pinkerton) has been a leader on defense. … The first Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl was played in 1954. New Hampshire leads the series 50-18-2. … Vermont coach Bob Lockerby on his two quarterbacks, Ahmed Diawara (Burlington/South Burlington) and Hayden Boivin (North Country): “Both are capable of running and throwing. We plan to play both of them, but I think the game will dictate a lot of that (playing time). They both have their strengths, but they do have some similarities.” …  Tickets for Saturday’s game can be purchased by visiting shrinemaplesugarbowl.com.
