— Santos on the team’s kick situation (Nick Mazzie transferred East Carolina): The transfer from Buffalo, Nick Reed, has done a phenomenal job. He’s got a really good leg. He’s accurate. … He’s in the driver’s seat right now. Behind him (freshman) Greg Motorny is someone who is a punter and a kicker and a kick-off specialist for us. He was leading the way during spring ball, so they’re going to be battling it out and it will be interesting to see who wins that.”

— Santos on the receiving corps: “For us to be successful through the air Caleb Burke is a name that comes to mind. He really needs to step up. I think he has the ability to be an all-conference, all-american-type player. The ball needs to go through him for us to be successful.

“(Tight end) Colby Ramshaw, his leadership qualities have really stood out for me and I think it shows why he was voted captain. He’s bigger, he’s stronger. I think he’s gonna have more of a physical presence in the run game than he did last year, which is exciting for us.

“Then a couple newcomers. Chase Wilson is one guy who that comes to mind. He’s a transfer from Wesleyan who’s done a really good job in camp, so excited to see how he progresses as well. Then there are some guys who were here last year who were a little bit younger. (Logan Perez) gives us some explosiveness. We want to get him into space and see how he goes.”
